Adding a Text Note While Placing an Order

On the product page, the Text field appears as a labeled box, right on the product template alongside things like size, color, and quantity. Two of its settings (set when you created the field) control what the customer actually sees:

  • The Add to Cart Button Label you chose appears above the box, telling the customer what to enter (e.g. "Add Notes").

  • The Helper Text you chose appears as placeholder text inside the empty box, giving a hint of what to type (e.g. "Enter your text").

The customer clicks into the box and types their note directly. It behaves like any other text input on the page. Whatever they type stays in the box as they continue browsing or adjusting other options (size, quantity, etc.), and is included the moment they add the product to cart.

If the field was marked Required during setup, the customer can't add the product to cart with the box left empty — they'll need to enter something first. If it wasn't marked required, they can skip it and add the product to cart with no note at all.

The submission is automatically attached to the resulting order — no manual matching or separate email required. Open the order in Shopify, and the submission appears directly on the order details page under the field name you set during configuration.
