Choosing Between a File Upload Field and a Text Field

Easy File Uploader gives you two field types, and picking the right one (or using both) depends on what you actually need from the customer before checkout.

  • File Upload field — use this when the customer needs to submit an actual file, not just text. Common cases: custom artwork or a logo to print on the product, a reference photo, a print-ready design file.
For each File Upload field, you control which file types are accepted (from the 14 supported types across Images, Design files, Documents, Archives, and Audio), whether customers can upload one file or several (up to 5), whether there's a file size limit, and whether uploading is required before the product can be added to cart.

See Creating a File Upload Field for the full setup walkthrough.

  • Text field ("Text Box") — use this when you just need written input, not a file. Common cases: a gift noteengraving or personalization text, or sizing/delivery instructions. For each Text field, you control the label shown above the box, the helper text shown inside it, and whether it's required before checkout.

See Creating a Text Field for the full setup walkthrough.

The two types aren't mutually exclusive — you can add both to the same product if an order needs them together, for example a logo upload plus a note about where to place it. The demo shows exactly this: one File Upload field and one Text field added to the same store.

Finding Your Fields Later

Once you've created a field — whether during onboarding or afterward — it lives under the Fields tab inside the app. Open the Fields tab any time to create another field, or to open an existing one for editing or deletion.
